Road to the Oscars III
Only 10 days are left for the Oscars to get underway and the whole nation is waiting with bated breath for the Mozart of Madras to claim the coveted title.
The question that is doing the rounds right now is whether 'Slumdog Millionaire' (SDM), the rags-to-riches story will make India rich (with awards).
Talking about Rahman, it could not have been a better 2008 for him. He stormed the film music world last year by coming up with one hit after another.

Rahman began the year with 'Jodhaa Akbar' and followed it up with 'Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na' and capped it all with the score of British director Danny Boyle's film 'Slumdog Millionaire' and 'Ghajini'.

Jodhaa Akbar's music was quite enjoyable though the film bombed. The epic film had tracks like 'Azeem-O-Shaan' 'Shahenshah', 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' and 'Jashn-E-Bahaara' that went down well with the listeners.

The youthful music of 'Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na' struck the right chord with youngsters. The music of the much-hyped Aamir Khan starrer 'Ghajini' was another feather in Rahman's cap.
In Tamil, Rahman's 'Taxi Taxi' in the film Sakkarakatti emerged as an anthem among the youth. Though the movie did not do well at the box office, his songs reached the masses. This year has begun on a grand scale for Rahman for he is working in Mani Ratnam and Shankar's films. Moreover his songs in the yet-to-be-released Delhi 6 are making waves. (The songs are already topping the charts).

With Slumdog taking him places, Rahman has proved that he is indeed a rare genius. Rahman's birthday is on January 6. It could be coincidental, but then he has been showered by awards as soon as he celebrated his birthday this year.
Let's hope the run continues with the Oscars as well.
